Amino-Peptide Complex Regenerates Skin Appearance CINCINNATI, OH January 16, 2003 - Women who take the fight against aging very seriously now have a broader range of options. In addition to professional procedures such as chemical peels and lasers, the latest topical anti-aging advancements come from a new understanding of the importance of peptides. Anti-aging leader Olay once again provides what women should expect from skincare products by offering not just skincare, but cell care. Now, with the introduction of Olay Regenerist with Olay-exclusive Amino-Peptide Complex, immediate and long-term dramatic effects can be achieved at home.Going beyond current Olay anti-aging moisturizer technology, Olay Regenerist uses the latest pentapeptide technology to beautifully regenerate skin's appearance, without irritation, by renewing its outer layer one cell at a time. The result is skin that looks, feels and behaves more like new skin. This next generation line of three products - a serum, cream and lotion - helps improve the skin's barrier and renew its outer layer to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, delivering optimal skin health. "Peptides have been recognized for their role in wound healing but their efficacy in improving the appearance of photo-damaged skin has only recently been determined," explains Dr. Alexa Kimball, Assistant Professor, and Director of Clinical Trials, Dermatology, at Stanford University. "The identification of certain kinds of peptides, which function as a natural trigger to help accelerate newer cells to the surface, is an important breakthrough." The Power of Peptides As the skin matures, the combination of time, stress and the environment undermine its natural ability to renew itself. Wrinkles and fine lines become more noticeable, cell turnover slows and skin tends to lose its elasticity. In recent years there have been various technology milestones in anti-aging skincare, including ingredients such as retinoids, AHAs and BHAs. Cosmetic procedures have been regarded as the gold standard in the fight against aging because they offer a more aggressive approach to renew skin's outer layer. Now, scientific advancements point to a certain type of peptide called pentapeptide (KTTKS) as the newest skincare breakthrough. In prior usage in wound healing, it is believed that this specific pentapeptide - a collagen fragment of five amino acids - triggers production of new structure such as collagen. Olay scientists now have identified its usefulness to help boost the skin's natural surface cell turnover process one cell at a time. So this newly recognized pentapeptide can be thought of as a cellular key to the rebuilding of either inner or outer skin. Olay Harnesses Pentapeptide To harness this pentapeptide, Olay scientists combined it in an exclusive delivery system with Vitamin B3, Allantoin, Pro-Vitamin B5, Vitamin E, and Green Tea Extract, to create the Amino-Peptide Complex. This powerhouse complex can be found in all three Regenerist products including Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum, Olay Regenerist Perfecting Cream and Olay Regenerist Enhancing Lotion with UV Protection. "Olay Regenerist is a tremendous breakthrough, because the Amino-Peptide Complex helps skin appearance regenerate faster," according to Lauren Thaman Hodges, Global Associate Director of Skin and Hair Science at Procter & Gamble. "The Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum, for example, contains the most concentrated form of the Amino-Peptide Complex. It not only provides intense anti-aging benefits, but unlike many serums, it also performs as a moisturizer, resulting in immediate and long term results." Women and Skincare Today In an independent global survey, more than 750 women were polled and many indicated that they are looking for dramatic results like those achieved from professional cosmetic procedures but many were not willing to take that next step. Among women bothered by the signs of aging, 79% said they'd like their skin to look and feel like new skin; 85% said they would not undergo a cosmetic procedure to achieve that result. "Clearly, there is a need for a more effective, accessible and less invasive alternative in the fight against aging," explains Virginia Coleman Drosos, Vice President Global Olay Skincare. "With the introduction of Olay Regenerist, we are hoping to create a whole new skincare approach for the woman who wants the next generation of anti-aging technology to regenerate her skin's appearance - one cell at a time." Olay Regenerist with Amino-Peptide Complex will be available nationwide beginning in April 2003 where Olay products are sold.
