CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 2012--
P&G Professional™, the away-from-home division of Procter & Gamble
(NYSE:PG), proudly coordinated and sponsored two educational events at
the 2012 ISSA/Interclean Conference held this month in Chicago, allowing
featured experts to share their industry knowledge and insights related
to the importance of effective cleaning and disinfection practices.

The two events included a Lunch & Learn session titled, “Lessons
from the 2012 London Olympics - The Importance of Cleaning and
Disinfecting for Your Customers’ Safety and Satisfaction,” featuring
Jan Matthews, and a Live Panel Discussion titled, “Cleaning Up The
Communication on Disinfection,” featuring a diverse group of
experts, including members of P&G Professional’s newly created Expert
Advisory Council.
ISSA Lunch & Learn
The Lunch & Learn session saw Jan Matthews discussing the challenges of
leading a team of 25,000 volunteers, employees and third party
contractors to deliver the Food and Beverage, Cleaning and Waste
Programs at the London 2012 Games, and sharing best practice examples
applicable to all businesses. Her key learnings shared with the audience
of more than 200 ISSA attendees included:
-
Select vendor partners who bring added value to your business, not
just cost savings,
-
Be clear on requirements and expectations when contracting,
-
Develop a strong measurement model and ensure it is enforced,
-
Put a mechanism in place for customer feedback … and act on it, and
-
Ensure that workers understand and are recognized for the importance
of their job.
“The London 2012 Games was the world’s biggest peacetime catering
operation, serving over 15 million meals in 77 days. Safety was of
paramount importance, to ensure a big success rather than a big issue.
Olympic scale learnings can be of benefit to all businesses large and
small, and I’m delighted to have had that chance,” commented Matthews,
following the event.
ISSA Panel Discussion
A live panel event also was coordinated to address the importance and
process of developing and executing an effective cleaning and
disinfecting process.
panel members included:
-
Mr. Steve Kovacs, R&D Section Head for P&G Professional
-
Mr. Michael Kupneski, Technology and Product Development for P&G
Professional
-
Mr. Jim Mann, Founder and Executive Director, Handwashing For Life
Institute
-
Jan Matthews, CEO of RP Global and Former Head of
Catering, Cleaning and Waste for the 2012 London Olympic Games
-
Ann Schenkel, Director of Business Development, Healthcare/Education,
at North American Corporation
With the discussion guided by Moderator Corrine Zudunvi, Editor,
Housekeeping Solutions Magazine, panelists discussed the purpose and
importance of both cleaning and disinfection tasks, and the reasons
behind wide-spread confusion, emphasizing that while each step is
crucial, it does not necessarily have to be done separately, provided
that the right tools and training are put in place.
“ISSA/Interclean is one of the most significant events on the calendar
for the professional cleaning industry, so it was an opportune time to
address a subject of this importance. We were pleased to be able to
gather a well balanced panel of experts to share a wide range of
insights to move toward industry improvement,” commented Renee Buchanan,
communications manager, P&G Professional.
For those who were unable to attend this year’s show, full video
versions of each session will soon be available on P&G Professional’s
web site. Further, P&G Professional is hosting an educational webinar
entitled Cleaning Up the Communication on Disinfection on
Tuesday, November 27. For further information, please visit www.pgpro.com.
